Jesus made the Old Testament revelation of himself the Foundation of his Ministry. Prophecies about the coming of Christ were spread over thousands of years. Jesus proved his identity as the Christ from God by fulfilling them all, right down to the last detail.
From the first book of the Bible (Genesis) to the last book (Revelation) the Sacrificial Lamb is used as a symbol of Jesus Christ the Saviour. Each occurrence is used to reveal truth about Christ’s own sacrifice on the cross.
The Levitical offerings and sacrifices teach specific truths about the sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus. They themselves could not remove sin but were symbols of the all-encompassing perfect offering in Jesus. His death fulfilled the shadows and types of burnt offerings, grain offerings and all other offerings.
Jesus is far superior to any priest before him or since. He offered to God the perfect gift and sacrifices for sins; he offered his own perfect life to obtain for his people the forgiveness of their sins. He has opened the way into the Holy presence of Almighty God.
Jesus is the God-inspired prophet that was anticipated many years ago. He is the infallible messenger and the infallible message. Everything he said was accurate, true and trustworthy. He is the Word of God and the complete communication from God. All should hear him.
The Royal Line of the tribe of Judah was divinely preserved for two thousand years until the coming of Jesus. He was the promised Shiloh, the Peacemaker, Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Son of David with an Everlasting Kingdom. The Holy Spirit of God filled Jesus at his baptism. He performed amazing miracles, walked on water, calmed storms, multiplied bread and fish, and healed diseases all by the power of the Holy Spirit within.
God promised Abraham remarkable blessings regarding his descendants. Through the promised seed of Abraham blessing would come to all the nations of the earth, both Jew and Gentile, through faith in Jesus.
The judgement of God fell on Adam and Eve after their rebellious disobedience but God promised to intervene with the coming of a Saviour. In the battle with evil the Saviour would suffer and yet succeed. Details of what, how, why, and when are given in a trail of prophecies spanning 3,500 years.
The term Son of God signifies the closest relationship between two Divine Beings. This Sonship is not physical or biological but spiritual because God is a Spirit. 1 Corinthians 10:1-13
Jesus was symbolised throughout the wilderness journey; including by the pillars of cloud and fire, by a tree, by manna and by two very different rocks. New life in Christ is symbolised coming from the rock.
Jesus was symbolised in the whole sacrificial system of the tabernacle and temple, in the altar, veil, ark and mercy seat. He tabernacled among us for thirty-three years. Water flowing from the temple of God symbolises spiritual life coming from Christ.

There are many comparisons to be drawn between the monumental events in Eden and at Calvary; especially the garden, the tree and the curse. At Calvary Jesus restores paradise and access to the Tree of Life is granted to all who repent of their sin and trust in Jesus as their Saviour.
The Feasts of the Jehovah in the Old Testament were instituted by God to serve as symbols of the person and work of Christ. Their individual significance and fulfilment by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus is made plain in the New Testament.

This is largely the present human condition: alienated, separated from God and suppressing all knowledge of God; confused about life, it’s direction, purpose and meaning; spiritually dead, living for materialism and pleasures.
The present and permanent solution: Jesus Christ comes to deal with this 3-fold problem: bringing individuals back to God; giving direction and meaning; awakening individuals to spiritual life which is full, rich and unending (eternal). Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
The Lord Jesus doesn’t address the uneasy relationship between nations but
peace for individuals. There are two kinds of personal peace. Each type entails a gift and a responsibility; what God has done and what we must do in order to know that peace. There is a peace between God and his reconciled child brought about by the death of Jesus and accessed by repentance and faith. There is also personal peace in our heart which is the Gift of the Holy Spirit and is accessed by personal trust and prayer.
In our present spiritual climate there is the great danger of a preacher becoming discouraged and disheartened. The remedy is to constantly remember the mercy of God experienced by the preacher and the power of God evidenced in the Bible and history – ‘…the most urgent need in the Christian Church today is true preaching…’’ (Martyn Lloyd-Jones). This ‘true preaching’ is a special kind of preaching. It is the proclamation of God’s Word from the heart of the preacher to the heart of the hearer.
